MANCHESTER, NNC – Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is not convinced his team can win the Champions League this season. According to Pep, Man City still lacks experience in Continental Europe.
Pep Guardiola's statement was delivered ahead of Manchester City match against Basel in the last 16 of the Champions League which will take place on Wednesday (2/14/2018).
As is known, in the Champions League competition, City's best performance only reached the semifinals of 2015/2016 season. "I do not know, I really do not know, I do not know if we are ready [to be champion] or not," Guardiola said as quoted by ESPN.
"I have a lot of confidence in the players, no doubt and they know it, but this competition is special, so I do not know," Guardiola added.
Pep himself did not want to boast about his target in the Champions League. The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona coach said he only wants to bring City past the top 16.
The Spaniard claims to be satisfied with his team's progress this season, especially in the English Premier League and Pep will make similar preparations for the Champions League.
"We did better for seven or eight months this season than last season and we cannot deny it, but the competition is very special from my experience, the teams are so clinical and we should be, too," Pep said.
