NAPLES, NNC – Napoli star Marek Hamsik is very happy he now becomes the top scorer in history for the club. Hamsik never thought he was able to surpass the record of goals owned by the Napoli legend, Diego Maradona.
Certainty of Marek Hamsik to become Napoli's all time leading scorer was after he scored Napoli's one goal victory over Sampdoria in the 18th week Seriea A Italy.
Hamsik contributed one goal when Napoli beat Sampdoria 3-2 at San Paolo on Saturday (12/23/2017). The Slovakian midfielder scored the goal from a close range by maximizing a feed from Dries Mertens.
The one goal has made Hamsik packed a total of 116 goals in 478 games with Napoli since he was brought from Brescia in 2007. He was one ahead of Maradona, who scored 115 goals for Napoli in 1984-1991.
"The record is fun and I've got a reward. My friends made me a shin guard with 116 on it," Hamsik told Sky Sport Italia.
Napoli still tops the Serie A standings with 45 points from 18 matches, one point ahead of Juventus which becomes the closest competitor.
