JAYAPURA, NNC – Team Persipura Jayapura is currently looking for a new coach after not extending Wanderley Junior's contract. Latest news mentions Persipura is approaching former West Ham United player, Peter Butler.
Chairman of Persipura Jayapura Benhur Tommy Mano confirmed his side is approaching the coach who had brought the national team Botswana qualified at the 2014 African Cup.
Peter Butler is not foreign in Indonesian football. The Englishman was once the architect of Persiba Balikpapan in the 2006/2007 and 2012 season.
"I have met directly with the prospective coach Persipura Jayapura, he is Coach Peter Butler who came from England," he said in Jayapura, Wednesday (12/6/2017).
According to him, the coach has had enough experience in training various clubs and national teams, even also in Indonesia a few years ago, and had time to handle Persiba Balikpapan.
"Coach Peter already understands Indonesian football, including being able to speak Indonesian, so it's easier to communicate, but we have not signed the contract yet our talks have been agreed on. So, the contract is just a matter of time and sponsorship," he said quoted by Antara.
However, the mayor of Jayapura is waiting for a response from PT Freeport Indonesia and Bank Papua to become the main sponsors as a continuation of cooperation in 2018.
"I really hope we can be supported for IDR10 billion from Bank Papua and IDR12 billion from Freeport, that's my hope, if we can get that value then we can move freely in the transfer market to recruit the best players," he said.
