Spain Fails to Secure Top Seeded Pot in World Cup Drawing (as)

MADRID, NETRALNEWS.COM – The success of Portugal, France and Argentina in winning automatic tickets to the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia in June-July next year, has brought bad news for 2010 world champions Spain.

For the first time since the 1998 World Cup, La Furia Roja certainly failed to occupy the top seed or pot when the group stage draw is held in Moscow, 1 December.

Now, in the 2018 World Cup, eight (8) countries will emerge as the first seed, namely Russia as the host, Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Belgium, Poland, Argentina, and France.

The failure of Julen Lopetegui's troops could not be separated from the success of Portugal in defeating Switzerland, and France subduing Belarus. In another confederation, Spain was affected by the defeat of Chile from Brazil, Peru who failed to beat Colombia, and Argentina who finally managed to win from Ecuador.

As scheduled, on Monday, 16 October, next week, FIFA will release the latest rankings. Spain estimated to be ranked 8th. However, since Russia will be given top seed as host, this situation will put Spain in the second pot.
