President Jokowi’s Wax Statue at Hong Kong’s Madame Tussauds Now Wears Batik

BEIJING, NETRALNEWS.COM - The wax statue of President Joko Widodo at the Madame Tussauds wax museum in Hong Kong has its outfits changed to batik.

"After more than three months wearing a white shirt as his trademark, from today the statue of President Jokowi is wearing a batik shirt," said Tri Tharyat, Consul General of Indonesia in Hong Kong, to Antara on Saturday (8/12/2017).

He claimed to have discussed the replacement of the wax statue of the only active Southeast Asian president's outfit with the management of the museum located in the Peak Tower complex.

"The use of batik shirt will introduce more batik to the international community, that batik has been established as one UNESCO world cultural heritage," Tri said.

Behind the statue of Jokowi, which stands just three steps from wax statue of the first President of Indonesia, Soekarno, is attached LED screen featuring photos of the main attractions in Indonesia, such as Borobudur, Bali, and Monas.

"During his visit to the Madame Tussauds museum on May 1, President Jokowi hopes his statue becomes a means of promoting Indonesian tourism abroad," said Tharyat.

In the summer holidays like now Madame Tussauds museum visitors in Hong Kong continue to flow from day to night.

The museum has cooperated with the Consulate General of Hong Kong in the form of giving 50 percent ticket price to visitors from Indonesia.

The normal price of tickets once entering the museum displaying world figures, ranging from politicians to celebrities that is HK $265 or about IDR450,500.

But by showing coupons from the Consulate General of Hong Kong, visitors from Indonesia only pay half.
