JAKARTA, NNC -Nissan Motor Co aim to nominate a new chairman in the next month or two, before its next board of commissioners meeting on December 20, according to an anonymous source, after Carlos Ghosn was sacked as new chairman on Thursday, Nov 22, Reuters reported Friday.
The nomination will be done by a new advisory committee created by the Japanese carmaker, including the company's three independent directors.
The new chairman would hold the post "at least" until the next Nissan shareholders meeting. There was no decision whether to hold an extraordinary shareholders meeting, the source added.
The next regular meeting could be held in June 2019.
Another special committee commanded by the independent directors to talk about governance based on third party suggestion might propose establishing a nomination committee to elect a permanent chairman, the source said.
“It’s a two stage process,” the source said. “First we have to decide on a temporary chairman as soon as possible.”
Nissan has not made any further comment regarding its new chairman candidates after announcing the dismissal of Ghosn on Thursday.
Nissan's board voted unanimously to sack Ghosn, who was arrested Monday, Nov 19, over charges of financial misconduct including under-reporting his income in TSE filings and personal use of company assets, citing Antara.
