Foreign Minister: Seven Indonesians Killed in a Bus Accident in Malaysia

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Indonesia Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi says that seven Indonesian citizens have been killed in a bus accident in Penang, Malaysia, on Tuesday (10/24/2017).

“We want to express our deep sorrow and sympathy to the families of the deceased Indonesian citizens, as well as the accident survivors that are being treated at the local hospital," Foreign Minister Retno told reporters at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/10/2017).

The deadly bus accident involved a bus full of Sony factory workers, and a bus full of Plexus factory workers at kilometer 47 of Lebuh Utara Selatan, Penang Island, Malaysia, at around 06:00 local time.

"So, the bus capacity is 40 people, 39 of them are Indonesian citizens. We have communicated with our consul general in Penang," she said.

She said seven of the 39 people on the bus were killed. Two Indonesians are at a critical condition, eight are in the ER, while 12 people are hospitalized.

" The Consulate and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have communicated with the families of the victims and God willing we will continue to monitor and accompany the family and also take care of the need after this incident. That's what I can update, "explained Foreign Minister Retno.

Currently the Consulate General of Penang is still handling the victims died and injured. They also attempted to contact the families of the accident victims.

Meanwhile, the Consulate General of Penang until now is still doing intensive coordination with the relevant parties in Penang, Malaysia. They also directly monitor the condition of Indonesian citizens who become victims as well as communicate the family in Indonesia.
