RAMALLAH, PALESTINA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Palestinian consensus government welcomes the Arab League move to foil Israel's efforts to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for 2019-2020..

The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) called on the Arab League to form a committee aimmed of foiling the Israel’s effort.

The Palestinian cabinet called the world, in a statement issued after a weekly meeting in the West Bank city of Ramallah, to reject Israel's candidacy for any international position. The cabinet considers it as boost to Israel's colonization, crime and non-compliance with the laws and norms governing international institutions.

The Palestinian Cabinet also expressed its condemnation of Israel's efforts to become a non-permanent member of the UNSC for its violation of the UN Charter and its denials to apply all resolutions in systematic and widespread violations of the norms of international law and human rights of the Palestinian people.

In a related statement, as reported by Xinhua, the Palestinian Cabinet appreciated "Palestinian, Arab and African efforts" that resulted in the cancellation of an Israeli-African summit scheduled to be held October in Togo.

The Palestinian cabinet warned of the serious impact of Israel's such summit conference in Africa, which would be an affront to the continent nations' struggle, while Israel occupied the colonial occupation of Palestinian land and the racist regime against the Palestinian people.

Media sources reported that the postponement decision stemmed from Arab pressure on African countries scheduled to attend the summit, and showing no discontent over their approach towards Israel.

The Arab League approved, Sunday (9/10/2017), a proposal to block Israel's efforts to become a non-permanent member of the UNSC, the official MENA news agency said.

In the proposal, the Arab League's representative council called on US foreign ministers to pass a motion from Palestinians on efforts to block Israel's efforts at the UN Security Council, Palestinian ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative at Arab League Jamal Ash-Shobaky said on the side of  148th Regular Session of the Arab League Council.

The committee aims to support Palestine and follow up the resolution of the last Arab summit held in Jordan, the Palestinian envoy said.

He again said the Palestinians would call on the UNSC for international protection for the Palestinian people and gain Palestinian membership in the Council.
