YPKP Campaigns for the Importance of Balanced Nutrition
TANGERANG, NNC – Health development for all the Indonesian people is part of the nine priority agenda or Nawacita carried by Indonesia President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo. This is manifested in the Healthy Indonesia Program, with one of its components namely a mental revolution so that people have a healthy life paradigm.
Dr.drg Amaliya, researcher from the Public Health Observer Foundation (YPKP), said the health development of the Indonesian people is still a big challenge. Malnutrition and the increasing trend of non-communicable diseases deserve serious attention.
According to Amaliya, these health problems are mainly due to activites such as lack of physical activity, poor sanitation, and unbalanced nutritional intake. All of these factors must be considered and resolved comprehensively.
Compared to 2013, the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) data noted that Indonesians applying sedentary lifestyles rose from 26.1 percent to 33.5 percent.
Meanwhile, the problem of malnutrition due to malnutrition began to experience improvements. The proportion of stunting dropped from 37.2 percent to 30.8 percent. Likewise the proportion of malnutrition and malnutrition status decreased from 19.6 percent to 17.7 percent.
"People need to be aware of how important it is to pay attention to lifestyle and balanced nutritional content in every meals and drinks. To fulfill community nutrition, milk and processed products are one of the sources of nutrition that has an important role, "Amaliya said in 2018 Community Gathering with the theme Sweetened Condensed Milk as One of the Balanced Nutrition Sources of Indonesian Communities at Pasar Modern Bintaro, South Tangerang.
Regarding balanced nutritional intake, Amaliya explained that milk has various nutritional content including protein, fat, and vitamins which are needed to support a person's development in every stage of life from children to adults.
Amaliya appealed to the public as consumers to be more intelligent and responsive to the nutritional literacy contained in every food consumed, one of them by reading labels and finding the correct information from experts. This is in line with the Regulation of the Head of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) Number 31 of 2018 concerning the Processed Food Label which was just released last October. The regulation strengthens Perka BPOM Number 21 of 2016 concerning Food Category which explains the content of various food products, including milk.
"I don't think people need to hesitate anymore about the content of milk, including sweetened condensed milk. "There are various rules that have confirmed that processed food products, including sweetened condensed milk, are safe to consume while still paying attention to the labels on each product package," Amaliya explained.
In the Community Gathering at Bintaro Modern Market, Amaliya was accompanied by Indonesian celebrity Melaney Ricardo. The two shopped together to buy various food ingredients which were then cooked by Chef Glenn Waas, who is also a food consultant and host of a number of cooking shows on television.
"I am very grateful to get the knowledge from YPKP regarding the importance of balanced nutrition including complete information about the benefits of sweetened condensed milk. This will be a very valuable input for me in providing a balanced food intake for the family," said Melaney.
In the event, Chef Glenn demonstrated how to cook two menus with basic ingredients of sweetened condensed milk and dairy products including Cheese Fla rolled ommelette and strawberry juice.
"In essence, we want to emphasize that any processed food product is safe to consume as long as the recommendations and serving sizes are right," Amaliya concluded.
