JAKARTA, NNC - Health experts have been telling us to drink eight glasses of water every day. But does it also apply to children?

Chairman of the Indonesian Hydration Working Group (IHWG), Prof. Dr. dr. Budi Wiweko, SpOG (K), MPH said, the amount of water that children need to drink is as many as six glasses. This amount must be fulfilled, because about 60 percent of a child's body consists of fluids and there is an impact if the child lacks fluids.

"If children lack fluids, all kinds of issue can occur. It can be chronic dehydration, inflammatory reactions, kidney failure, diabetes and hypertension," said Prof. Budi to NNC recently in Jakarta.

Prof. Budi said, the impact of lack of fluids in children does not occur quickly, but seen in a span of 10-20 years. Prof. Budi said, this situation would also cause a health burden to the country for the next 30-40 years.

Not only that, Budi also said, pregnant women must drink enough water. Lack of water consumption can cause fetus to not develop properly, one of them due to lack of amniotic fluid.
