Three Hectares of Mount Guntur Forest Land Burned

Forest and land fires continue although extinguishing attempts are continuously done.

BANDUNG, NETRALNEWS.COM - Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Garut regency, West Java, said an area of three hectares of forest land in Mount Guntur burned on Friday (8/11/2017) night.

"The land area burned approximately is three hectares," said Chief Executive of Garut BPBD Dadi Dzakaria in Garut, Saturday (8/12).

He said the burned forest land is located in Tegal Malaka Block, Naringgul Hamlet, Rancabango Village, Tarogong Kaler Sub-district, Garut.

Fire incident, he said, began to be known, Friday at around 4 pm, then at around 6 pm the fire continued to grow.

He added a number of joint officers from BPBD, Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), National Police/ Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), Fire Department and local communities trying to extinguish the blaze with makeshift equipment.

Officers, he continued, create a burning block or by cutting fire lines so as not to spread to other forest land area, until finally the fire began to dampen around 10 pm.

"Efforts of BPBD along with the public to make fire block and extinguish fire with bamboo until the fire can be extinguished at 10 pm," he said.

He added that the burned forest is quite far from the settlement so it is not too dangerous to the surrounding population.

"The fire is about 500 meters from the settlement," he said. (*)
