Drugs from Malaysia Now Smuggled through Riau, Police says

JAKARTA, NNC - The smuggling of crystal meth drug from Malaysia to Indonesia no longer goes through Aceh's waterways, but through Dumai and Bengkalis, Riau.

Narcotics Crime Investigation Director Brigadier General Eko Daniyanto said Malaysia's drug smuggling route now goes through Dumai and Bengkalis.

Eko Daniyanto says based on the information obtained from several suspected couriers and drug dealers apprehended, the crystral meth smuggled through Dumai or Bengkalis was to be distributed to Sumatra and Java.

"As for areas in North Sumatra, the smuggling goes through Tanjung Balai Asahan," he said.

In early October, authorities managed to thwart the smuggling of 40 Kg crystal meth from Malaysia.

According to th department, during the third week of October 2018, the number of cases had increased from the previous week, from 825 cases in the second week to 869 cases in the third week.

Meanwhile, the number of suspected drug cases in the third week of October involved more than 1,000 people throughout the nation, including 37 drug dealers and 567 suspects.
