JAKARTA, NNC - The Indonesian government condemned the plan to implement the Prophet Muhammad-themed cartoon contest to be carried out by a member of the Dutch Parliament, Geert Wilders.
The Indonesian government's condemnation was conveyed by Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi to the Dutch government, according to written information received in Jakarta on Thursday (08/30/2018).
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno had communicated with the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Stephanus Abraham Blok to convey deep concern and denounce the planned cartoon contest.
The Indonesian Foreign Minister emphasized that the plan to carry out the cartoon contest with the theme of the Prophet Muhammad was provocative and irresponsible.
The Indonesian government considers that these activities can endanger joint efforts to create peace, stability and tolerance between religions and civilizations.
Furthermore, the Indonesian government stressed that freedom of expression is something that must be respected but not without limits.
"Therefore, all parties are obliged to always uphold the principle of tolerance for mutual respect," said a press statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported Antara.
