Village Ministry Holds Hydroponics Training for People with Disabilities

Minister of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration (Mendes PDTT), Eko Putro Sandjojo said that people with disabilities must be given the opportunity to live independently.

YOGYAKARTA, NNC - The Ministry of Villages for the Development of Disadvantaged Areas, and Transmigration (Kemendes PDTT) is committed to continue encouraging the empowerment for all rural communities in various parts of Indonesia, including citizens with disabilities.

One of the efforts performed by Kemendes PDTT is carried out by conducting a pilot training on hydroponic vegetable cultivation for people with disabilities in various regions.

Eko Putro Sandjojo said people with disabilities should be given the opportunity to live independently. When given the opportunity, he believes that people with disabilities will be able to succeed just as any other citizen.

"People with disabilities do not mean that they cannot do this or do that. If given the opportunity, they can actually do a lot of things successfully. Therefore we try to give training for them," said Minister Eko while observing hydroponic farming training activities for people with disabilities in the Yogyakarta area at the Community Training Center (BBLM) of Sleman Yogyakarta, Wednesday (8/29/2018).

Hydroponic vegetable cultivation training is chosen because it is classified as simple and able to provide substantial income.

"One unit (hydroponic plants) can yield profit of around IDR500 thousand. Therefore, we try to give each one of them. If it works, it can be further developed," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of BBLM Yogyakarta, Erlin Chaerlinatun said that this training is the first time of its kind being implemented and certainly not the last. She hopes that this kind of training will also be carried out by other training centers.

In the training at BBLM Yogyakarta, BNI is also involved in providing stimulant of hydroponic installation.
