JAKARTA, NNC - The Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit will immediately clean up the streets in the area of Monas, Central Jakarta, from street vendors.
"In the near future, we plan to discipline illegal street vendors in the surroundings of Monas," Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit Chief Yani Wahyu Purwoko said in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 11.
Yani says the action must be taken immediately to maintain order, comfort, and beauty during the 2018 Asian Games in the capital city.
"All illegal street vendors who still insist on selling in the area of Monas should be immediately disciplined, considering that Jakarta will soon host the Asian Games," Yani said.
The Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit has been conducting routine surveillance and securing the area. However, illegal street vendors are often stubborn and returns to the site.
"Routine supervision continue to be done, particularly during the night time. Street vendors somehow return to Monas at around 10 p.m. or when there is no one is on guard," he said.
Yani says the area of Monas must be sterile from steet vendors during the Asian Games event.
