JAKARTA, NNC - Ministry of Religious Affairs will hold a moon sighting (rukyatul hilal) for determining the beginning of Syawal 1439 H/2018 AD. Rukyatul Hilal will be held tomorrow, Thursday (6/14/2018), at 97 monitoring points spread over 34 provinces in Indonesia.
According to the written statement received by NNC from Public Relations of Ministry of Religious Affairs, Wednesday (6/13/2018), the hearing for isbat (confirmation) will be held at Religious Ministry Building on Jalan MH Thamrin, Jakarta.
The hearing will be attended by the Ambassadors of friendly countries, the Commission VIII of House of Representatives, the Supreme Court, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (LAPAN), the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG), Bosscha Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Planetarium, Falak (Astronomy) experts from Islamic Organizations, Echelon I and II Officials of the Ministry of Religious Affairs as well as Hisab (Calculation) and Rukyat (Moon Sighting) team from Religious Ministry.
The hearing will begin at 4.30 pm, started with the presentation of Hisab and Rukyat Team from Religious Ministry about the positions of hilal (new moon) astronomically, ahead of the beginning of Syawal 1439H. The process of isbat is scheduled to take place after the Maghrib (sunset) prayer following the report on results of rukyatul hilal from the monitoring sites.
As usual, the isbat hearing is conducted closed. The results of decision will be presented openly by the Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin in a press conference after the hearing.
