House Commission I on Yahya Cholil Staquf Attending Jewish-American Conference in Israel

Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission I Abdul Kharis Almasyhari.

JAKARTA, NNC - Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission I Abdul Kharis Almasyhari assessed the visit by member of the Presidential Advisory Board (Wantimpres) Yahya Cholil Staquf to Israel to attend the invitation of the conference of Jewish-American relations to blunder international political diplomacy.

"I regret the visit of Yahya Cholil Staquf to Israel, on the grounds of attending an invitation to a Jewish-American relations conference in Jerusalem, Palestine," Abdul Kharis Almasyhari said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday (6/13/2018).

According to him, the visit of Yahya Staquf could damage the path of Palestinian diplomacy that Indonesia has taken for a long time.

The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician explained that Indonesia has just gained the confidence of being elected a member of the UN Security Council (UNSC) and has not worked yet.

"Yahya Staquf's visit to Israel has made Indonesia ashamed of the countries that voted for Indonesia," he said.

Abdul Kharis hoped that President Joko Widodo could give a firm stance to Yahya Staquf who was considered to have hurt the Palestinian and Islamic countries.

The House Member of Central Java V electoral district asserted Yahya Staquf's position as a member of Wantimpres, cannot simply behave on behalf of the private visit.

Yahya Staquf's visit, he said, made a strong blunder of international political diplomacy which has been built in defense of Palestinian independence.

"The palace should provide an explanation, how the position of President against Yahya Staquf's step," he said.

Abdul Kharis also reminded Indonesia's diplomatic relations with the Palestinian strong so far has been continued well by the government of President Joko Widodo.

"This is seen through the foreign policy steps through the Foreign Ministry policy which is the working partner of Commission I of the House," he said.

Kharis asserted the working meetings between Commission I of the House of Representatives and the Minister of Foreign Affairs often discussed about the strong diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Palestine.

Great confidence of Palestine to Indonesia, he said, became the key of Indonesia being trusted by Muslim countries, so that Indonesia holds an important position of lobbying in the international world.

"Do not let that trust disappear because of rotten apple. Anyone and on behalf of any, should be able to place themselves where and when to take appropriate action related to Palestine," he said, as quoted from Antara.

Not to mention Palestinian situation is heating up after the deaths of hundreds of people and thousands who were wounded in Gaza, Kharis said.
