Police: This Afternoon 1,000 People Hold Protest in Front of Facebook Indonesia Office

Head of Public Relations Division of Jakarta Metro Police Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono

JAKARTA, NNC - A number of Islamic community organizations (mass organizations) will hold a protest at the Office of Facebook Indonesia on Jalan Gatot Soebroto, South Jakarta, Friday (1/12/2018).

In a leaflet action named 121 Peaceful Action, the activity was done because lately many Facebook accounts of Islamic organizations were blocked by the Facebook, including the accounts of Islamic figures. Meanwhile Facebook is considered to allow the accounts of the insulters of Islam.

Head of Public Relations Division of Jakarta Metro Police Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono estimates there are 1,000 people who took part in the action.

"Already got notification, [we] estimated 1000-ish," said Argo when confirmed by reporters, Friday (1/12).

Related to the number of security personnel, Argo was reluctant to explain in detail. According to him, the number of personnel deployed is certainly sufficient to oversee the 121 Peaceful Action.

In the circulating action leaflets, the activity was not directly started in front of the Office of Facebook Indonesia. Earlier the masses performed Friday prayers together at Al-Azhar Mosque and then continued the long march to Facebook Indonesia office.

There is possibility that the police will bridge some mass action representatives in order to meet with the Facebook party to express their aspirations.
