JAKARTA, NNC - Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi and Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan made the groundbreaking of the ASEAN Secretariat building at Trunojoyo Street Number 1, South Jakarta, Friday (1/5/2018).
"The construction of this building is done on the land which was originally the Office of South Jakarta Mayor, which was granted by the Provincial Government of Jakarta to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," Anies said at the site.
Anies targets the construction of the ASEAN secretariat building will be completed this year. "The building will have 16 floors and should be finished by the end of 2018," he said.
On that occasion, Anies revealed what the ASEAN secretariat building will be used for. "In this place various kinds of diplomatic activities will be done. Not many cities in Indonesia that have diplomatic representation as much as Jakarta," he explained.
The former Minister of Education and Culture also hopes that the building will be an icon of ASEAN, and can be utilized by the people, especially the education world.
"If this is complete we hope that the citizens of Jakarta, especially schools can also use it for their students to come and feel that we are the capital of Southeast Asia," said Anies.
