JAKARTA, NNC - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has urged the United Nations (UN) to severely sanction Israel and the United States for violating 2334 UN Security Council resolution.
This was confirmed by Vice Chairman of MUI Zainut Tauhid Sa'adi. MUI strongly rejected United States (US)’ decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and plans to relocate the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
"The MUI is calling on the Indonesian Government to lobby Muslim countries of the world to pressure the United States to evaluate its actions and we urge the UN to give severe sanctions to Israel and the US because the two countries have clearly violated the UN Security Council resolution" Zainut said in a written statement that NNC received on Thursday (12/7/2017).
MUI states its support for the Government of Indonesia's steps to aid in the independence of the Palestinian state and the creation of peace through a two-state solution. The solution includes the creation of an independent Palestinian state within the borders before the 1967 War which comprised of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem, with Israel coexisting peacefully.
This statement was conveyed by the MUI, as US actions will only further foster fanaticism and violence and threaten the Israeli - Palestinian peace process. In addition, such acts will prolong the suffering of the Palestinian people as it increasingly takes away any certainty of its independence.
"The action will further trigger tension in the Gulf region, disrupt the calm and stability of the Middle East and the world and will spark wraths of Muslims worldwide," Zainut said
