Gorontalo Holds Contest for Best Polling Stations

GORONTALO, NETRALNEWS.COM - Gorontalo provincial government holds contest for polling stations (TPS) in all districts and cities in the framework of 2017 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada), Wednesday (2/15/2017).

Regional Secretary Winarni Monoarfa said the contest is titled ‘Anugerah Bintang Demokrasi’, or Award of Democracy Star, which will select the best TPS with some criteria.

The criteria are the most beautiful, the most secure and the most participating voters TPS which means, Winarni said, if total amount of eligible voters are 450, those all have to cast their votes.

The provincial government has sent letters to all district and city governments and to stage the contest, so that local governments will become the judges at district level then each proposes six polling stations which will be assessed at provincial level.

Gorontalo provincial government will involve an element of Communication Forum of Regional Leaders (Forkominda) which will assess the TPS proposed by district and city governments, to find the best ones and meet all those three assessment points.

The competition which is set to compete for IDR10 million prize for the first winner, is intended to increase voter participation in the democracy fiesta in that area.

Winarni hoped the government's efforts to improve community participation in exercising their voting rights will be successful especially collaboration with all elements continues, including through advertising in the mass and electronic media, urging people in particular those eligible to vote to not abstain from voting.

Chairperson of the General Election Commission (KPU) of North Gorontalo Fadlyanto Koem said to increase voter participation in Gorontalo Pilkada, not only does the commission maximize implementation amid TPS, but also participates in preparing ballot boxes for voters who are sick and treated at public health centers, hospitals, and detained at police stations.

Polling Committee Group (KPPS) will visit eligible voters who are being sick and certainly cannot get out of bed in every home, in order to cast their votes.

"This effort is to increase voter participation in this region," said Fadlyanto.

The number of eligible voters in Gorontalo Regency amounts to 82,084 people.

Three candidate pairs participate in Gorontalo Pilkada: 1) Hana Hasanah-Tonny Junus. 2) Rusli Habibie-Idris Rahim and 3) Zainuddin Hasan-Adhan Dambea. (*)
