JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Former Chairperson of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Antasari Azhar says the sixth Indonesian President Susilo “SBY” Bambang Yudhoyono is the person who manipulated Antasari’s case.

"Initiator of criminalization against me is SBY," said Antasari at the Office of Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim), Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Jakarta, Tuesday (2/14/2017).

He also told something which he had never expressed for years.

Antasari said late at one night in March 2009, MNC Group CEO Harry Tanoe visited his home. The arrival of Harry was instructed by someone in Cikeas, who asked Antasari not to detain Aulia Pohan who was ensnared by corruption case.

"Harry was sent by Cikeas, he asked me not to detain Aulia Pohan," said Antasari.

Hearing the request, Antasari rejected it on the ground that it violated KPK’s standard operating procedures.

However, Harry warned him. "Harry said that if I [Harry] cannot meet the target, how can I report? I could be kicked out of Cikeas. Later how is your safety? Sir be cautious," said Antasari mimicking the words of Harry Tanoe.

In his conversation with Harry, Antasari confirmed that he did not compromise with the cases he was dealing with. "I've chosen the law enforcement profession. I accepted any risk," he said, confirming.

In front of the media today, Antasari also asked SBY to tell the truth about the alleged criminalization against him.

"To SBY, be honest. He knew my case. Whom he instructed to criminalize Antasari?" he said.

Antasari is a former chairperson of KPK in the administration era of the President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

His action in leading KPK stole the attention after the anti-graft institution captured judge Urip Tri Gunawan and Artalyta Suryani in the case of Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI).

However, Antasari career stalled, because he was accused to be involved in premeditated murder of Putra Rajawali Banjaran director Nasrudin Zulkarnain.

Antasari Azhar eventually was sentenced to 18 years prison time by the South Jakarta District Court after having been convicted of killing Nasrudin Zulkarnain.

Antasari Azhar through his legal counsel appealed, filed cassation and judicial review, but he was still convicted.

On Thursday, November 10, 2016 Antasari Azhar left Tangerang Penitentiary with parole status since being detained in May 2009. (*)
