Supporters of Gov Enembe Ask Gov’t to Stop Any Form of Criminalization

Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe is named as suspect of budget corruption case.

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Supporters of Papua Governor Lukas Enembe who are joined in the Representatives of the Barisan Massa Demo Akbar (literally, Front of Great Demonstrator Mass) in the Entire Land of Papua came to National Commission for Human Rights (Komnas HAM) building, on Jalan Latuharhari, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Monday (9/25/2017).

They claimed criminalization in the determination of Lukas Enembe as a suspect in corruption case of Papua Provincial Government budget 2014-2017 and alleged misappropriation of scholarship fund for Papuan students.

In this regard, the representatives of the Barisan Massa Demo Akbar came to the office of Komnas HAM and urged the government to immediately stop all forms of criminalization to Lukas Enembe.

"On the 19th previously we just had a big demonstration in six cities in Papua, we asked the central government to stop all forms of criminalization to Lukas Enembe," said Massa Demo Akbar Coordinator Alberto Wanimbo when met at Komnas HAM building on Monday (9/25).

They considered that the issue of meeting with the head of State Intelligence Agency (BIN), the chief of National Police and the investigation of corruption cases allegedly involving Lukas Enembe by the Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) is a criminalization effort directed against the Papuan governor.

"What we see before the 2018 Papuan Governor Election, we see there is a political content such as the investigation process in Bareskrim, the evidence is not strong but it seems to be imposed," he said.

In their complaint, representatives of Massa Demo Akbar also submitted one photo album and video related to the big demonstration activities in the six cities as evidence of the aspirations of the Papuan people who rejected the criminalization. (*)
