JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS. COM - Toll road connecting Medan-Kualanamu-Tebing Tinggi in North Sumatra is expected to open before 2017 Eid al-Fitr or before the end of June 2017.
The toll road section which is planned to connect Siantar and Parapat will speed up access to Lake Toba, one of 10 priority tourist destinations, said the Head of Big Office of National Roads II of Medan Paul Ames Halomoan after a meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs, Jakarta, Friday (2/3/ 2017).
"Medan-Kualanamu-Tebing Tinggi toll road, we have started to open before Eid. Later it continues from Tebing Tinggi to Siantar then to Parapat," he explained.
Paul said, overall, the toll road from Medan to Parapat stretching along 90 kilometers will be opened fully in December 2017.
He added the existence of toll road will significantly facilitate the flow of traffic because travel time along Medan-Tebing Tinggi route so far reaches three hours, the fastest.
"If in the holiday season, it is over five hours. Even yesterday [during] the Christmas and New Year in Parapat it took 11 hours to Siantar. Although usually only two hours," he explained.
Head of the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) Herry Trisaputra Zuna said in addition to accelerating traffic to Lake Toba, the government will also connect Medan to Kuala Tanjung industrial estates.
"We are preparing for the signing of Toll Road Concession Agreement [PPJT]. Hopefully this February we planned by 20th it can be signed," he said.
Toba Lake becomes one of 10 Indonesia’s tourist destinations in Indonesia which become the priorities for development to date.
Of the 10 destinations, Lake Toba, Borobudur Temple and Mandalika of Lombok are priority in 2017. (*)
