SELAT SUNDA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Directorate General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is preparing a technologically advanced vessel to map the energy potential stored in Indonesia's marine waters.
"The seismic data, will be offered to the Cooperation Contract Contractor (K3S) as an initial indication of the tender of Work Area (WK) to be proposed, the length of seismic cable is increased by 6,000 meters," said Director General of Oil and Gas Ego Syahrial to Antara when participating in Test of Geomarin III vessel in Sunda Strait, Sunday (6/8/2017).
The Geomarin III vessel, which currently has 700 meters of seismic cable, is the only Indonesian owned vessel capable of mapping seafloor potential through seismic surveys. Currently, Geomarin III can provide a picture of the potential of gas and oil or mineral content with a two-dimensional view.
"Two dimensions are good, but not enough, because the standards for oil and gas interests are three dimensions, so investors are more interested and can describe the location in detail," he said.
Meanwhile, Head of Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources F.X. Sutijastoto said the ability of Geomarin III is targeted to be improved until the end of 2017.
"It is currently being upgraded, and it requires an investment of IDR70 billion," Sutijastoto said.
In addition, if it is to improve overall to provide detailed data on oil and gas mapping in the Indonesian seas, it would require an investment value of IDR300 billion for Indonesian seismic vessels to have international standard mapping capabilities.
So far, investors if they want to join the auction as the operator of Work Area (WK) always use third party to get identification data. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources already has a Geomarin III ship capable of providing the survey data.
It is intended that the data can be owned by Indonesia directly without any known third party hired by the investor, so that KKKS or investor can utilize the data officially through the Ministry of ESDM as the auction package of WK.
Eastern Indonesia still has many unexplored blind spots of deep sea potential.
The Center for Marine Geological Research and Development (PPPGL), the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), on Sunday (6/8), conducted a Sea Trial of Geomarin III Research Vessel in the Sunda Strait.
This Sea Trial is a preparation for the identification of sedimentary basin research to support the preparation of oil and gas (oil) oil and gas (Oil) Arafura, Papua and OTEC (Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion) areas in Lembata waters, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
In this Sea Trial, also conducted trials of survey equipment used for geological and geophysical data collection.
