Toyota Donates HIACE to Burung Indonesia to Support Nature Conservation (special)

GORONTALO, NNC - Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), through its Indonesian affiliate Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), has donated a Toyota HIACE car to Burung Indonesia (a member of the BirdLife International global network of partners) to support biodiversity surveys and conservation education activities in the Popayato-Paguat Natural Landscape in Gorontalo.

The Toyota HIACE will be used by Burung Indonesia to support the team for surveys, promote environmental education for rural and urban communities, and raise awareness of the importance of environmental conservation among the younger generation in the region.

This effort is part of the collaboration between Toyota Motor Corporation, BirdLife International, and Burung Indonesia, under the vision of Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050. With this vision, Toyota targets the development of "future communities that are in harmony with nature".

TMC has donated four cars each year to selected Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that are engaged in the environment in the world for five years since 2016.

The donated cars are used to support biodiversity conservation efforts related to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, the most comprehensive list of endangered species. Reaching the natural habitats of the endangered species on the list is very challenging, as most of the access to the habitats must go through heavy terrain.

In March 2018, Toyota also donated 1 Hilux unit to another environmental NGO in Indonesia for the same environmental conservation purposes.

The symbolic handing over of the donated car was carried out at Universitas Negeri Gorontao. Also attending this event were Government Officials related to UNG Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Syamsu Qamar Badu, M.Pd, Executive Director of Burung Indonesia Dian Agista, Toyota Daihatsu Engineering Manufacturing (TDEM) Vice President Yoshiaki Ishimoto and several representatives from TMMIN.

Yoshiaki Ishimoto, TDEM Vice President, said Toyota wants to contribute to have a positive impact on the environment, as outlined in the 2050 Toyota Environment Challenge.

"To achieve this, we are trying to build cooperative relationships with organizations involved in environmental conservation activities. The donated car is one of the many steps we take. This car will be used in conservation efforts, including education about endangered species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. We will continue to strengthen our efforts to realize this vision," Ishimoto said on Friday (07/12).

On the same occasion, Toyota also donated educational teaching aids in the form of two intact machine units (1 NR type machine and 1 TR type machine) and 1,000 Gorontalo endemic multipurpose seeds to Universitas Negeri Gorontalo.
