JAKARTA, NNC - Online shopping sites in Indonesia have reported 20-80 percent visit and pageviews traffic hike during the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Lazada, Tokopedia, Shopee, Blibli, Bukalapak, and JD ID also saw the number of visits to their sites increasing until the closing of the World Cup.
In addition, transaction value also rose by 27 percent during the month of World Cup 2018 in Russia. This could be seen from the transaction history recorded by Shopback Indonesia from June 15, 2018, to July 15, 2018.
Indra Yonathan, Country Head of Shopback Indonesia, said that e-commerce transactions tend to decrease significantly after Ramadan. However, transactions on e-commerce platforms have risen an average of 25 percent this year.
"There are two factors to the transaction hike: rising public purchase power and the World Cup 2018 momentum. These were used by e-commerce sites to reach more users through various promotions," Indra said on Tuesday (07/24).
Meanwhile, the product categories with the most significant transactiong growth include fashion, phone credit, mobile and gadget, travel, as well as food. Indra said food and phone credit saw unusual growth for the month of July.
"The growth could be attributed to the World Cup 2018 event, as people needed phone credits or internet data packages to see their favorite national teams on live stream. People would also interact on social media to be part of the World Cup euphoria," Indra added
As for fashion products, football jerseys had been sought after by consumers during the World Cup event. Based on data from alexa.com, Tokopedia reported a 19.31-percent share of voice keyword for football jersey in Indonesia, with the remaining voice keyword showing up on other top marketplace platforms in Indonesia, such as Lazada (13.05%), Bukalapak (12.9%), JD ID (7.53%), dan Blibli.com (5.43%).
