JAKARTA, NNC - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) admitted to have recommendation for the import of salt to the Government. However, the amount is not as it is currently done that is 3.7 tons.
Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti acknowledges the ministry only recommends import of industrial salt amounting to 2.17 million tons.
"For salt, in a coordination meeting in accordance with the Law we calculate and ensure the import of quotas we recommended was only 2.17 million tons. The decision of 3.7 is the oversight of the Ministry of Economy and Trade. Recommendation because of some considerations and do not heed the MMAF considerations that only recommended 2.1 million tons," explained Susi Pudjiastuti in the conference room of the House of Representatives Commission IV, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (1/22/2018).
According to Susi, the recommendation is the result of consideration and examination of the MMAF to salt farmers.
"My consideration in giving 2.1, I see and investigate that there is enough salt and is good enough to satisfy consumer salt from our farmers. True, if it is regulated like that prices can go up from IDR1,000 to IDR3,000 and instead benefit the farmers," said Susi Pudjiastuti.
She also requested coordination from the House Commission IV and VI so that the decision does not harm salt farmers, so that later the decision is expected to be a reference program for the MMAF.
"That's we all have to say, hopefully there will be coordination of IV and VI Commissions so that the salt farmers will not be harmed. And this will be the reference for the works of the MMAF program in 2018," explained Susi.
