Gov’t to Pour IDR100 Bln for Livestock Ship Program

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The government through the Ministry of Transportation again took steps on the distribution of animal livestock programs. For that, the ministry also pours funds amounting to IDR100 billion for the first phase to begin in November 2017.

"This initial stage there is one ship, with investment for one ship amounting to IDR50 billion," said Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi in Jakarta on Monday (10/16/2017).

He further admitted that later on there will be four units of vessels devoted to the livestock ship program. If one ship can carry 500 cattle from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), it means that four ships will be able to transport 2,000 cattle to Jakarta, Lampung and Sulawesi.

"Not to mention a lot of requests are from Lampung, Bengkulu and Sulawesi. Those are lack of livestock. In fact, we will discuss with the Ministry of Agriculture so that not all [cattle] are transported to Jakarta but partly to Sulawesi and Bengkulu," he said.

He added that there are still many areas that need cattle to meet the needs of meat in the region. In fact, the ministry was asked directly by the government of Bengkulu and Sulawesi through the Ministry of Agriculture.

"Well, incidentally NTT and NTB claimed to be livestock producers," he explained.
