Lazada Appoints Achmad Alkatiri as Chief Marketing Officer for Indonesia

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Lazada, an e-commerce company owned by Alibaba, has named Achmad Alkatiri as its new Chief Marketing Officer for Indonesia, after previous holder Sebastian Sieber decided to leave the company.

"After five years of contributing to Lazada Indonesia, Sebastian will continue his career in Iran for another e-commerce company," as quoted from a written statement delivered by hypefast.id on Sunday (9/10/2017).

Prior to joining Lazada, Achmad spent 2 years with Shopee when Garena's marketplace was launched in 2015.

Prior to engaging in e-commerce, the 28-year-old Maluku youth spent his career in the travel industry by working at Singapore-based Wego and Accorhotels. Achmad earned his bachelor degree at Telkom University.

In the launching event of Lazada Upgrade SME Roadshow some time ago, Achmad said the focus is to expand Lazada across Indonesia.

"Our ambition is to help the government to create new digital economic points across Indonesia, and not just in big cities.We want to encourage more SMEs in the region to grow and more people across the archipelago to get access to any products online" , said Achmad.

In June 2017, Alibaba, the China-based e-commerce giant made an additional investment of US $1 billion to Lazada and took over 83 percent ownership.

This investment is used to strengthen its market in the Southeast Asian region, especially as competition in the region is heating up, with the entry of JD.com and Amazon.
